What is Un Certified Fibc?

The international transport of dangerous goods in IBCs is regulated by a number of international codes based on the United nations Recommendations on the Transport of dangerous Goods – commonly known as the “Orange Book”. Orange Book divides IBCs into six categories namely metal, flexible, rigid plastics, composite, fibreboard and wooden.There are four types of FIBCs described ,which constitute the great majority of the FIBCs and they are as follows ;

1. PP woven Fibcs, without coating (13H1)
2. PP woven Fibcs, coated (13H2)
3. PP woven Fibcs, with liner, without coating (13H3)
4. PP woven Fibcs, with liner and coating (13H4)

UN tests

Several tests are applied to the UN Certified FIBCs in order to verify UN requirements such as ;

1. Top lift test
2. Tear test
3. Stacking test
4. Drop test
5. Topple test
6. Righting test

The test house authorised by the national government to carry out UN performance tests on its behalf and to issue National Test Certificates to UN standard by competent authorities will prepare a report which is the basis on which the certificate is issued.This report will describe in detail not only the specification of the Fibc tested but the test levels at which the Fibc passed.The certificate is unique to the type of Fibc tested and may only be used to cover the carriage of products within the limit of the UN test.

UN Marking on FIBCs

All the UN Certified Fibcs must have the UN mark on them. The appereance of this mark is described in the Orange Book. A marking example :
